Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a tropical hardwood species native to Central America, particularly found in countries like Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. This wood is best known for its stunning array of colors, ranging from deep oranges to rich reds and purples, as well as its unique grain patterns. Symbolizing strength, courage, and a connection to the earth, Cocobolo has long been loved by woodworkers for its amazing qualities. Cocobolo wood is known for its natural oils, which not only contribute to its lustrous appearance but also make it highly resistant to decay and insect damage.
Surgical stainless steel is a great choice for a wood ring core. It's lightweight, affordable, and its minimalist design showcases the natural beauty of the wood inlay. While it's not completely scratch-resistant, any scratches that do occur are hardly noticeable since there is minimal surface area that comes in contact with other surfaces. It's also technically hypoallergenic, but if you prefer an extra level of safety, ceramic is a great alternative. For a more sturdy and metal-dominant design, tungsten is the one for you.
